This qualification has been designed to meet the employment requirements of Ignite Minds which is a Family Day Care service.

 

Graduates will also be eligible to work in any Family Day Care or Long Day Care service anywhere in Australia.

 

Students are encouraged to work and study at the same time, work 3 days and study 2 days per week and can charge up to $120 per child per day to look after children in their own homes in the Inner suburbs of Melbourne.

 

Whilst Family Day Care Educators can look after up to 7 children at any one time within their own homes, Ignite Minds educators look after on average 4 children and earn around $480 per day. In line with Ignite Minds education philosophy, this course has been structured around a play based curriculum that promotes practical hands on approach to recognising that children learn through play.

 

Nestled within the Abbotsford Convent education precinct, we utilise a Rudolph Steiner philosophy and a play based curriculum to facilitate learning and purposeful enriching play, enabling children to achieve their developmental outcomes. This qualification is the entry level qualification to any accredited childcare service including Family Day Care, Centre Based care, and occasional care program.

 

Occupational titles may include:

  • Child care worker/ assistant

  • Playgroup supervisor

  • Family day care worker

  • Outside school hours care assistant

  • Recreation assistant

  • Nanny

Course Outline

This course is delivered over 6 defined clusters of units over 6 months.  With a rolling enrollment, students can commence at the first class of the month of enrollment and will continue for 6 months until completion of all 6 modules.

 

Each month students are required to attend 2 classes and allocate up to 20 hours for homework activities.

 

Students are expected to enroll in volunteer work placement for 5 hours per week for at least 120 hours over the 6 month course duration.  During placement you will engage with 3 focus children and assessment activities will center around the developmental needs and interests of these children.  Your assessor will visit you once per month during placement to conduct an observation assessment.

 

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course Consultants will gain:  

  • CHC30113 Certificate III Early Childhood Education and Care

 

Students may be eligible for credit transfer for entry into related courses.  All participants will be advised to discuss this option with future training providers if they undertake training in a ‘like’ area.  Students will be encouraged to participate in CHC50113 Diploma of Early childhood education and care.

 

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites qualifications for entry into this course.

 

Entry Requirements.

Students will need to successfully pass the following selection criteria to study this course

  • Victorian Working with Children's Check

  • National Police Check
  • Pass a Language and Literacy test of ACSF Level 3 (equivalent to Year 10 English)

  • Attend pre enrollment interview and demonstrate a genuine desire to work in the industry.

Our graduates are being paid $120 per child per day (up to 7 children) working for Ignite Minds family day care. We have high expectations of all our students and can reward you for demonstrating excellence in your studies.

This course comprises 15 core subjects and 3 electives. Students that have completed other similar qualifications may apply for 'credit transfer' which may reduce the total number of units to be completed. Credit Transfer is direct recognition of units of competence completed at other institutions. You can discuss eligibility upon enrollment.

Students will need to complete 'HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting' which is a 2 day course run every month. This unit is included as pert of this course.

Elective units have been chosen from extensive industry consultation and to meet the requirements for the Certificate III Children’s Services.
